A starter for books...

Note that we only read autobiographies, biographies and 'ghost written' autobiographies. No business books, fiction, science fiction - just books written about real people.

Here are some starter books:
  1. My American Journey: Colin Powell
  2. Growing Up Laughing: Marlo Thomas
  3. Open: An Autobiography: Andre Agassi
  4. the Biographies section at Amazon.ca
You can also get books from the public library. Here is a a link to Burlington Public Library.  You can log in sing your library card, put books on hold and have them sent to the libray branch nearest you.

If you want to buy books and don't want to pay full price, you can get books in excellent condition on AbeBooks. I've bought many books from this site over the years and have only had one not come thru. I called and got a refund. Too bad, it was a Teddy Roosevelt biography.

What is this and how does it work?

What: A "book club" for men

Purpose: To learn from reading and discussing autobiographies.
Why: Apply to our lives, to help us grow and understand ourselves, other people and the world.

Format:
  • read the book (a different person reads a different book)
  • report on the book (5 - 15 minutes)
    • author's life hardships, how they impacted him and lessons he took away (if any)
  • what you got from the book and how you / others could apply those lessons
  • discussion / Q & A (5 to 15 minutes)
  • there can be multiple reviews per meeting
  • we will break after 90 minutes to 120 minutes (1.5 to 2.0 hours)
  • you can read and report back on whatever book you read
  • you don't need to tell us what you are reading
  • Here is a link to book club etiquette, so you can be prepared to ask questions
Timing:
  • One person provides a review once per quarter (minimum)
  • Meet every 2 weeks
Why "Red and White"? Just the most common colours in my book shelf.
